Brandon Barr
Brandon Barr’s first works of fiction were sci-fi and fantasy monster stories involving his fifth-grade classmates, many of whom suffered grisly deaths in the tentacled grips of a giant three-eyed squid. Although Brandon has grown up a bit since those prepubescent days, his love for heart-pounding action, high stakes drama and a fast moving plot are what wakes him in the wee hours of the morn to sip his hot cup of caffeinated goodness and write stories that makes his fans (like his 5th grade friends) shout for more.
He is the author of a dozen science fiction and fantasy novels and short stories. When not writing, Brandon is competing for Dad of the Year Award and giving his three wild boys all he’s got. His author heroes are Michael Crichton, Orson Scott Card, and Ray Bradbury. Find out more about Brandon and his books at http://www.brandonbarr.com/
We asked the author:
1.What is your favorite word? Fun
2.What is your least favorite word? Funeral
3.What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally? I may be the weird one in this, but what inspires me the most in each of those categories is reading fiction or theology. From George R.R. Martin and Anne McCaffrey, to C.S. Lewis or Timothy Keller, fascinating concepts and stories make my creative juices boil.
4.What turns you off? Kids waking up at 5am can take a hit on my creativity, but nothing wipes me out creatively, spiritually, AND emotionally like a majestic, mood-altering dose of chemotherapy.
5.What is your favorite curse word? My personal go to favorite is, Dang it! Kind of embarrassing to admit here.
6.What sound or noise do you love? The sound of an evil chipmunk chittering in diabolical anticipation. (Like I said in a previous answer…I may be the weird one in this, but this was what honestly what came into my mind. The second thing was the wild squeal of a feral pig–like the noise Adam Sandler made in Waterboy when tackling his opponents.)
7.What sound or noise do you hate? Besides nails on a chalkboard, knuckle cracking drives me crazy!
8.What profession other than your own would you like to attempt? All I want to do is write stories! I love being an author.
9.What profession would you not like to do? I’d prefer not to teach Kindergarten or be President of the United States.
10.If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates? So after a hug that’s like Hulk Hogan prepping me for a piledriver, He sets me down with a big smile and says, “Wipe that fearful look off your face, Brandon! I love you son!”
